A recent study (cited by Tom's Hardware) in London showed that an attractive “researcher” and promises of a chocolate bar after completing a survey showed that 64% of workers gave up their passwords. Amazing! What was surprising is that even 22% of IT workers gave up their password.
Which leads us to question IT, can your company’s security be compromised by chocolates and a sexy smile? For centuries, nations have relied heavily on “pillow-talk” for their intelligence gathering, but it interesting that chocolates and a smile seemed to be nearly or perhaps more effective in London. What’s the “sweet spot” here? Is it a $59 ipod shuffle? Or the $599 iphone? Or would chocolate and a sexy researcher be enough?
One hopes our sophisticated Silicon Valley workforce would know better, but it would be interesting to know the policies and programs our CIO members have instituted to combat password compromises.
